The Catalyst $100K

Healthcare Awards

The Catalyst $100K Award for future healthcare professionals is a merit-based scholarship awarded to exceptional candidates who will make meaningful contributions to their respective fields. According to data from the US Government, there will be a shortage of more than 200,000 healthcare professionals in the US by 2030. We want to train the next generation of doctors, nurses, dentists, and pharmacists and take concrete steps towards building healthier and happier communities.

This scholarship is made possible because of generous donations from:

The Process

Apply for The Catalyst $100K Healthcare Award

Applicants can apply in Round 1 or Round 2 for the Catalyst $100K Healthcare Award. Up to four scholarships will be awarded in Round 1 and up to three scholarships will be awarded in Round 2.

Apply for a graduate degree that is eligible for the award

Applicants should apply to eligible graduate programs in Fall 2021 for the intake of Fall 2022.

Get accepted to the degree

To be eligible for the scholarship, candidates must get accepted at one of the programs eligible for the scholarship.

Utilize the scholarship to pay for your tuition and living expenses

Successful applicants will be able to use the funding to pay for their tuition and living expenses.

The application process takes place over several months. Applications for candidates applying for graduate programs in Fall 2021 for the intake of Fall 2022 open on October 1, 2020.

We evaluate applications on a rolling basis and do take application timings into consideration. As such, applicants are encouraged to apply early.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidate should be

Applying to one of the following:

Medical School, Dental School, Nursing School, Pharmacy School, or Veterinary School. (full list below)

Planning to start graduate school in Fall 2022

Applying to graduate school in Fall 2021 to start their program in Fall 2022

Applying for full-time programs

Part-time or online programs are not eligible for this award

A U.S. or international citizen

A U.S. or international citizen currently pursuing an undergraduate education or working full-time in the U.S.

Eligible Programs is as Follows

Medical School

Candidates must be applying to schools of allopathic or osteopathic medicine, a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or a Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) degree.

The schools must be: Accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (sponsored by the American Medical Association and the Association of American Medical Colleges) or the American Osteopathic Association, Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation.

Dentistry

Candidates must be applying to a school of dentistry, a Doctor of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) or Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry (D.M.D.) degree.

Must be Accredited by the American Dental Association, Commission on Dental Accreditation.

Nursing School

Candidates must be applying to a school or program of nurse practitioner education with the goal to pursue a postgraduate degree.

Must be: Accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.

Must lead to national certification by the American Nurses Credentialing Center, the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners, or the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board as a nurse practitioner in one of the following specialties:
a.
Adult medicine
b.
Family medicine
c.
Geriatrics
d.
Primary care pediatrics
e.
Psychiatric mental health
f.
Women's health

Physician Assistant Programs

Candidates must be applying to a school or program of primary care physician assistant education with the goal to pursue a postgraduate degree.

Must be:
  • Accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant.
  • Accredited by a U.S. Department of Education nationally recognized regional or state institutional accrediting agency.

Pharmacy School

Candidates must be applying to pharmacy school with a goal to pursue a PharmD degree. 

Must be an ACPE pre-candidate, candidate, or accredited AACP member institution.

Veterinary School

Candidates must be applying to schools of veterinary medicine with the goal of pursuing a post-graduate degree.

Must be accredited by Accredited Colleges Of Veterinary Medicine.

Become A Catalyst Scholar

Decide what round to apply in

Applicants should decide if they want to apply in Round 1 or Round 2.

Complete the pre screen application

An incorrect answer to one of these questions would result in the applicant failing the pre-screen stage of the application.

Submit your application documents

Applicants who pass the pre-screen will be invited to submit the complete application.

Interview

A small group of candidates will be invited for an interview. This is the final stage in the process. Successful applicants will be notified after this round.

FAQ's

Is this a need-based or merit-based scholarship?

The Catalyst $100K Award is a merit-based scholarship. We evaluate applications based on professional potential, leadership experience, and your vision for the future.

Is there a benefit to applying early?

While our final decisions are based on the quality of your application, there is a benefit to applying early since we evaluate applications on a rolling basis and, as such, encourage early applications.

Why do you have two application rounds?

We believe that applying early is a sign of proactiveness and dedication. It also shows that candidates have done their research and are dedicated to attending graduate school in their field of interest.

Is there any difference between the two rounds other than the number of scholarships available?

No, there is no difference. The application process is exactly the same - applicants must go through a screening process, submit essays and references, and attend an interview regardless of what round they apply in.

Will my Catalyst $100K Healthcare Award roll over if I am not accepted at my dream school and wish to reapply next year?

Yes, we allow candidates to defer the award by up to one year.

Is this award available to international students?

Yes, international students may apply for this award as long as they plan to pursue a graduate education in the US.

Which programs are eligible for this award?

Applicants must be applying to one of the following - medical school, dental school, nursing school, pharmacy school, or veterinary school. Please click here for a list of all eligible programs.

Are dual degree programs eligible for this scholarship?

Yes, dual degree programs are eligible as long as you are enrolled in full-time in-person programs. Online and part-time programs are not eligible.

When will I be notified of my application decision?

Please refer to the application timelines for detailed information on application deadlines.

Do you provide feedback if my application is unsuccessful?

Given the volume of applications each year, we are unable to provide individual feedback to unsuccessful applicants.

I participated in an impactful activity after submitting my application. Can I update my application?

Unfortunately, we are unable to update your documents after you submit them.

What happens if I receive the scholarship but am unable to complete my program?

Applicants who are unable to complete their programs unfortunately forfeit the scholarship.
